Sunmaragoods started with a simple, slightly annoying observation: most of the plastic that ends up in the trash from a home kitchen is used once and then thrown away. A sheet of plastic wrap. A paper towel for one spill. A plastic bag from one grocery run. None of it is dramatic on its own — it's just constant, day after day, add up over a year and it's a lot of waste for very little actual use.
Why kitchens specifically
We focused on the kitchen because it's where this pattern shows up the most. It's the room where disposable habits are the most built-in — wrap instead of a container, a paper towel instead of a cloth, a bag instead of a tote — not because people don't care, but because the reusable alternative usually isn't sitting right there when you need it.
What we're trying to do differently
Sunmaragoods isn't about overhauling your entire kitchen at once. It's built around small, specific swaps: a beeswax wrap instead of plastic film, a set of reusable dishcloths instead of a paper towel roll, a proper storage basket instead of clutter on the counter. Each one solves one recurring annoyance, using natural materials like bamboo, wood, and glass instead of single-use plastic.
Where we're starting
We're a small operation, and we're upfront about that. We're not claiming to solve every kitchen's waste problem overnight, and we don't think anyone needs to buy everything at once. If you're looking for a place to start, our Start Your Zero-Waste Kitchen collection groups together the swaps that tend to make the biggest difference for the least effort — the ones worth trying first.
Thanks for reading, and for considering a few small changes with us.
